In a stroll through the gardens on this fine day, the blooms are truly eye candy. Besides the magnolias, hydrangeas, gardenias, Brazilian verbena, lilies, and butterfly bush, our feathered friends provided amusement.

Cardinals, ducks “Ricky & Lucy”, finches, mourning doves, robins, and scores of other birds were feasting, playing, and bathing in the gardens. The nest of baby robins will soon be empty.

Standing before family and friends, the couple chose the lakeside labyrinth for the site of their lakeside garden wedding.

Tracy’s stylish bridesmaids carried yellow bouquets, and the chairs were also adorned with yellow pom-poms.

At Lookout Point Inn we love dogs and because of that we really love to welcome pooches  at the inn along with their owners.

Ray and I have had numerous dogs in our lives throughout the years, each with funny and touching stories. When we were planning the inn, we decided to make sure we could accommodate dogs – from tiny to large breed – when they traveled with their owners.

friends stay with us, they are welcomed with a gift including custom-made doggie treats. Of course, they also receive their own personal welcome letter.

Please let us know you’re bringing your furry friend when you make reservations and we’ll be sure you are reserved in one of our dog-friendly rooms (four of our rooms are dog-friendly with direct access to the gardens).  We can help plan a perfect dog-friendly itinerary during your stay in Hot Springs.

Congratulations to Scott and Brittani, wed on April 3, 2012! They are such a dear, genuinely nice couple, and were surrounded by family and friends for their wedding.

We wish you all the best! It’s true–all of our staff genuinely care about each and every couple that chooses to get married at Lookout Point.

Ray and I are so grateful for the opportunities we’ve received in owning and managing Lookout Point Inn for 9+ years. We’re constantly busy in our day-to-day operations, but we both agree that part of our gratitude involves giving back to the industry in leadership positions.

In January, I was elected to chair the Board of the Professional Assoc. of Innkeepers International. I gave up my position as a director on the Select Registry Board of directors, an association of 400 of the top inns in North America, to serve more in-depth with PAII.  Ray is an alternate director of the Select Registry Board.

Ray & I are both former presidents of the Bed & Breakfast Association of Arkansas. Ray serves again this year as vice president of the association, starting a 2nd term on the board.

One of the most fun volunteer opportuniteis we’ve had recently is leading workshops at the annual Innkeeping Show. I also had the pleasure of conducting two online webinars on innkeeper.

A true privilege for Ray and me is to mentor new innkeepers. We learned so much from our mentors when our inn was new, and we love to give back that interaction and share any know-how to those new in the industry.

We encourage all our guests and friends to look for volunteer opportunities and share their knowledge, experience and encouragement with others!

One of the year’s biggest events, the Racing Festival of the South, brings tens of thousands race fans to Hot Springs.

Thoroughbreds at Oaklawn

Major races and special events happen through the week.  On Saturday mornings, Dawn at Oaklawn provides horse enthusiasts up-close and personal experience with the horses, trainers, and jockeys. It’s a time to see the horses in a stress-free, non-racing environment, when they’re way more playful!

For the Apple Blossom race on Friday, April 13, we’re awaiting official news of Havre de Grace, the current Horse of the Year, defending her crown. Apparently her owners will decide by April 7 if she will make another appearance at Oaklawn. What an opportunity to see an amazing horse!

On Saturday, don a hat and come to the Arkansas Derby. You’ll see top horses, have fun, and spend the day in a beautiful setting.

As innkeepers, we see a great variety of people from all over the world.  Meeting interesting, kind, funny, and curious persons is a great perk of this job! Guests who return to Lookout Point over and over again weave their way deep into our hearts.

Bill & Cheryl are two of those people woven onto the fabric of the inn, with their gentle spirit and zest for life! Married in Hot Springs years ago, they soon found our inn. Lookout Point became their spot to stay, and they even renewed their marriage vows in our gardens. Often coming with family, the inn rang with laughter and joy with every visit.

Three years ago in March, Bill died suddenly while on vacation with Cheryl and their teenage son. The shock and grief gripped their community in Missouri, and rippled to other states. Bill was a community leader, Boy Scout volunteer, physician, and so much more. In the midst of grief, even “his” innkeepers needed to do something, while feeling so helpless.

So we planted a tree. A dogwood.

The first summer, the tree struggled, telling us it was not happy where planted. Our gardener relocated the tree.

The second spring, the tree did not bloom but seemed content.

This month,  in the 3rd spring, profuse blooms are covering this small tree. Bill’s tree is happy and thriving. I am grateful to have known Bill, and to be reminded of life’s beauty through Bill’s tree!
