Holiday Tip from Lookout Point

December 19th, 2009 by Ray Rosset

PoinsettiasHere’s an easy trick for keeping poinsettias looking fresh and beautiful for the entire month, and beyond.  Ice.  That’s it.  Simply place 1/2 cup of ice on each poinsettia in place of water.  Do not even think about watering these beautiful plants!

I learned this trick years ago when serving the church, and we had hundreds of poinsettias.  Most of the plants die, or begin looking wilted, from too much water.  They don’t like wet feet.  The ice slowly melts, providing a more constant source of nourishment.

Almost daily guests ask how we keep the poinsettias looking so lovely, and we’ve had the flowers for 3 weeks already.  Sometimes I think if I know something, then the entire world probably knows it.  Yet I’m learning this tip may not be so widely known.

I would love to hear your helpful hints for the holidays!  What makes your life a wee bit easier this month?

Motorcycle Rally, Hot Springs, Arkansas Sept 10-13

August 15th, 2009 by Ray Rosset

Motorcycle Rally, Hot Springs
Motorcycle Rally, Hot Springs

Riders in Hot SpringsEach year, Hot Springs welcomes motorcyclists from around the region, celebrating the love of the road and the wind in the hair.  The Hot Springs area provides gorgeous scenic drives, with twists, turns, hills, and beauty.

The 2009 rally starts Thursday, September 10, and concert highlights include Foghat and Blue Oyster Cult.
Lookout Point Lakeside Inn loves to welcome motorcycle guests for the rally.  This year, covered parking is available for all bikes under the carport.
In 2008, Hurricane Ike interrupted the rally—so this year’s rally offers T-shirts declaring “I survived Hurricane Ike”.  At the inn, power was out during the night, yet breakfast was ready and served to our surprised guests without a hitch.  (Of course, behind the scenes we were scrambling to improvise without electricity!)
We’d love to welcome the Motorcycle Rally participants to Lookout Point!  You can share in the fun and many activities of the rally in downtown Hot Springs, yet come away to the peace, luxury, and quiet offered at Lookout Point.  Plus your aching muscles might celebrate a soak in the jetted tubs.
Sign up for the Hot Springs Rally, and come stay at Lookout Point for a fun weekend of riding.  Call 866-525-6155 to make a reservation, or book online  .

We look forward to future publications that highlight what Lookout Point has to offer.  Thank you Jim for such a wonderful piece.  To book a room or for more information about the inn call Kristie at 501-525-6155, or visit our website!

St. Patrick's Day Parade in Hot Springs, Arkansas

March 12th, 2009 by Ray Rosset

The First Ever 6th Annual Worlds Shortest St. Patrick’s Day Parade fills downtown Hot Springs with green, laughter, and entertainment as the parade begins and ends on the worlds shortest street, Bridge Street.  Celebrities include Grand Marshall John Ratzenberger, the famous San Diego Chicken, and the Irish Elvi (multiple Elvis impersonators).  I’m not sure of the Irish connection with the Chicken, but heck, it’s all in good fun.  We attended the parade last year, and part of the fun was watching the many dogs adorned in all sorts of Irish garb.  Some looked mighty embarrassed.  Luck of the Irish in Hot Springs
If you can make it to Hot Springs for the St. Pat’s parade, Lookout Point has two rooms remaining available:  the Evening Shade Room and the Hot Springs Suite.  Just give us a call to make the reservation.  501-525-6155.  Following the parade, you’ll even see green fireworks.
