Get in the spirit of the season starting Friday at 4:30 with the  Gingerbread House celebration in the historic downtown – a free event featuring caroling, tree lighting and refreshments.  Later Friday evening, stroll through the famous art galleries during the monthly Gallery Walk with the vibrant downtown Christmas display lighting your way.  Chances are you’ll find the perfect gift for the everyone on your list!

The fun continues Saturday afternoon at 2:00 when the Santa Train arrives in Hot Springs bearing gifts for all the children.  Other holiday events this weekend include the Pocket Theatre’s musical production OLIVER! and Garvan Gardens‘ Lights on the Landscape.  Come home to a luxury room at our Hot Springs B & B each night, and relax in the spirit of this most joyful time of year!

Here’s our favorite ice cream spots in Hot Springs:

1.  Nom Noms, Mexican Grill-N- Chill. Who would have thought a Mexican grill rates with fantastic homemade ice cream? In a non-descript former fast food building, this place rocks. I tried the strawberry sorbet with cake batter, and Ray had nutella heath icecream.  Smooth as silk.

2. Scoops Ice Cream. Scoops is probably the better known, and is a very popular ice cream spot.  Great flavors and friendly service.

The 107th Annual Live Racing Season opens this month at Oaklawn! The season starts January 14th with live races Wednesday though Sunday at 1:30 pm and on Saturdays at 1pm. Come to the Art Exhibit and Show, Hot Springs Airport, Saturday December 18, 1-3:00pm  of two fine artists.  Proceeds from the art sale benefit Our Promise, a non-profit group caring for persons with cancer.

Promise is an acryonym for Prescription Assistance, Resources, Outreach, Monetary Assistance, Involvement, Support Services, and Education–provide relief to persons suffering the hardships of cancer.  Pat’s painting featured here was accomplished while he was undergoing cancer treatments, so he has first hand knowledge of the issues faced.
