The parade lasts a total of 99 ft–the entire length of Bridge Street.   For a High School band, that means only 99 feet of the band can play at one time!

The gold at the end of the rainbow may be found in Hot Springs, Arkansas, along with celebrity Grand Marshal Bo Derek, green fireworks, Irish belly dancers, floats, Irish Order of Elvi (a group of Elvis look-alikes), marchers, Irish Wolfhounds, and the Pub-Crawl. 

  Previous grand marshals include Mike Rowe (of TV’s Dirtiest Jobs), Mario Lopez, and Norm from “Cheers”.   Come enjoy a good laugh, green fireworks, and perhaps a pint of green beer.  Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Come celebrate birthdays with cake and refreshments on January 15!  It’s a big day:  the hero of my childhood, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. would have turned 81 on January 15.  That’s reason enough to celebrate.  His life and his death had a big impact upon me and our country!

As a child moving to Arkansas during the days of segregation, I felt in my soul the pain of separation and prejudice based upon color.  I didn’t understand the separate drinking fountains and entrances.  Hearing Dr. King speak, stirrings of hope and truth rang clear. 

Believing that all life is a gift, I think the day of our births are worthy of celebration.  January 15 is also my birthday, and I’m honored to have been born on Martin Luther King’s day! 

I invite you to come stay at Lookout Point, have a slice of celebratory cake and a glass of wine or tea, and share a dream.  I hope to see you on my birthday.

Lookout Point Lakeside  proudly announces the September winner of the monthly Laid-Off Getaway Giveaway package.  Tiffany and her husband, from Texas, won the two night package.  Her letter and story touched at our heartstrings, and we are honored to provide a place of relaxation and romance for them.

The Laid-Off Getaway Giveaway continues through the end of 2009, with one package given each month.  The package includes a two night stay for two persons at the inn on Sunday-Thursday nights, gourmet breakfast each morning, and the chance to spend wonderful time together as you are pampered by the staff of Lookout Point.

 The upcoming festival, held October 16th-25 at the historic Malco Theatre in downtown Hot Springs., remains the only film institute in the United States dedicated solely to the documentary film genre.   The festival was incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1992. 

 The Festival shapes the identity of Arkansas nationally and internationally.  The Festival committee views nearly 1,000 films submitted from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe, and selects 100 to be viewed each year.

July 10th and 11th, the Hot Springs convention center will be hosting Quiltfest 2009-”Peaceful Creations.”  Quilt lovers from all over can come to Hot Springs and enjoy the two day show of quilts from Hot Springs and surrounding areas.  Admission is $5. 

On Saturday, July 11th, the Arlington will the 8th annual smooth jazz concert featuring Grady Nichols and his band.  This event is a fundraiser for the Lupus Foundation – Arkansas Chapter. Doors open at 6:30pm, and the shows starts 7:15pm. Admission: $20 in advance and $25.00 at door.

Magic Springs summer concert series presents Sara Evans on July 11th at the Timberwood Amphitheater.  March of Dimes will have their March for Babies Walk on July 11th.  The walk will start at Entergy park. 

On Tuesday, July 14th, Garvan Gardens will host their monthly tea at 3 p.m. in the Pratt welcome center of on the Veranda.  Enjoy traditional English tea, including tasty scones, crumpets, finger sandwiches and delectable desserts.  Cost is $15 for members and $18 for non-members. Seating is limited, and pre-payment  is required.

“Steel Magnolias” will be playing at the Pocket Theatre in downtown Hot Springs July 16th-26th.

July 17th the Antique/boutique walk will take place on the 100 block of Central Avenue in downtown Hot Springs.  The walk is the place to be for that one-of-a-kind treasure, antiques, fine art, clothing, dazzling jewelry, specialty foods, plus unique gifts for the home and garden.
