World’s Shortest St. Patrick’s Day Parade

February 19th, 2012 by Kristie Rosset

Hot Springs is becoming known as one of the great places to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day! On March 17, the hilarious “First Ever 9th Annual World’s Shortest St. Patrick’s Day Parade”

World's Shortest St. Patrick's Parade

is held on Bridge St., in the historic downtown. Really. This parade is only 98 feet long–the entire length of Bridge St.

Never a town that takes itself too seriously, this day is full of green celebration and green libation. Live, free concerts fill the air before and after the parade. You can also join in the kissing of the Blarney Stone.

This year’s grand marshal: Otter (Tim Matheson) from Animal House.

Come on and stay at our Hot Springs B&B—away from the crowds and noise, but close enough to the fun. We’ll provide tips on the best parking and viewing areas.

Live thoroughbred horse racing and spring in Hot Springs have been going together for more than a century.  Lookout Point offers a new benefit to guests:  complimentary admission to the exclusive Oaklawn Jockey Club.  A lovely, elegant, smoke-free, members only setting with great food and awesome view of the track plus the Ouachita Mountains.

Excitement at Oaklawn

Just stay two nights, with at least one of the nights Sun-Thur, and we’ll provide admission to the Jockey Club.

Note: you’ll need to observe the OJC dress code (no jeans or running shoes, sport coats for gentlemen).  Admission is NOT available on Arkansas Derby Day.

Racing season continues through April 16, with races every Thursday thru Sunday.  Call the inn 501-525-6155 to make reservations for your stay and the OJC admission.

First Ever 8th Annual World’s Shortest St. Patricks Day Parade!

February 23rd, 2011 by Kristie Rosset

That’s right! The First Ever 8th Annual World’s Shortest St. Patrick’s Day Parade will be held in Hot Springs, Arkansas on March 17th. But don’t think that something so short isn’t worth your time. The Leprechauns will not take that lightly! The event is recognized by the Southeast Tourism Society as one of the top 20 events in the Southeast. In addition the Smithsonian has named #1 in the way of the most unusual celebrations of the holiday. Irish Central named it “the wackiest”. Now you know you want to be a part of it! Have a stay at Lookout Point Lakeside Inn and be there for this year’s round of recognition.

The festivities will last well into the evening with live music and a street dance starting at 7:30 to finish it off. Of course this will follow other events like the Blarney Stone Kissing contest at 4:30, and the parade itself lasts for and hour starting at 6:30. Get a good spot for viewing by making sure you arrive by 6:00 when the festivities kick off!

This year’s Grand Marshal will be none other than one John Corbett!

Grand Marshal of The World’s Shortest St. Patrick’s Day Parade 2011

You know him from popular television shows such as Parenthood, Sex and the City and Northern Exposure. He will not only serve as Grand Marshal but also will provide the after-entertainment for the street dance by performing with his band!

The parade is held on Bridge Street in downtown Hot Springs. All 98ft of Bridge Street earned it the title of the World’s Shortest Street from Ripley’s Believe It Or Not in the 1940’s. Sounds like a great location for a parade, right?! Over 30,000 people seem to think so. They flock to the site each year to celebrate the holiday.

Why not join them this year? Come and have a relaxing stay in one of these luxurious rooms at our bed and breakfast. We will make sure you are well rested and geared up for wearing green!

7th Annual World’s Shortest St. Patrick’s Day Parade

March 5th, 2010 by Ray Rosset

A sense of humor and the ability to laugh at ourselves.  Enjoying sheer silliness.  Truly that’s the nature of the people of Hot Springs.  The World’s Shortest St. Patrick’s Day Parade is testimony to this fun-loving town.

The parade lasts a total of 99 ft–the entire length of Bridge Street.   For a High School band, that means only 99 feet of the band can play at one time!

The gold at the end of the rainbow may be found in Hot Springs, Arkansas, along with celebrity Grand Marshal Bo Derek, green fireworks, Irish belly dancers, floats, Irish Order of Elvi (a group of Elvis look-alikes), marchers, Irish Wolfhounds, and the Pub-Crawl.

Previous grand marshals include Mike Rowe (of TV’s Dirtiest Jobs), Mario Lopez, and Norm from “Cheers”.   Come enjoy a good laugh, green fireworks, and perhaps a pint of green beer.  Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Jan. 15 Birthday Celebrations at Lookout Point

January 9th, 2010 by Ray Rosset

CMartin Luther King, Jr.ome celebrate birthdays with cake and refreshments on January 15!  It’s a big day:  the hero of my childhood, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. would have turned 81 on January 15.  That’s reason enough to celebrate.  His life and his death had a big impact upon me and our country!

As a child moving to Arkansas during the days of segregation, I felt in my soul the pain of separation and prejudice based upon color.  I didn’t understand the separate drinking fountains and entrances.  Hearing Dr. King speak, stirrings of hope and truth rang clear.

Believing that all life is a gift, I think the day of our births are worthy of celebration.  January 15 is also my birthday, and I’m honored to have been born on Martin Luther King’s day!

I invite you to come stay at Lookout Point, have a slice of celebratory cake and a glass of wine or tea, and share a dream.  I hope to see you on my birthday.  :)

Kristie
