Hot Air Balloons Take Over Hot Springs September Skies

August 19th, 2012 by Kristie Rosset

If you’ve got people in your life full of hot air – the Legends Balloon Rally

Legends Balloon Rally

might be just the event to enjoy together, September 21-22, 2012. The Rally is a great place to work off some of that energy, to share a few laughs and to experience the beauty and splendor of the balloons. Hot Air Balloons always elicit a feeling of exhilaration and pure delight. In all sincerity, the rally is a  wonderful way to spend time with family and friends.

The Legends Balloon Rally has been a part of the end of summer/beginning of fall happenings in Hot Springs since 2008. Every year the event brings visitors from outside the area and folks from Hot Springs. The Rally includes hot air balloon competitions, a car show, a free concert and plenty of time to gaze into the sky and enjoy the balloons with the array of bright colors.

One of my favorite parts of the Rally is the Balloon Glow Friday and Saturday night around dusk. At that time of evening the colorful and majestic balloons are tethered to the ground for the unforgettable balloon glow display. The evening light elicits a beautiful addition to the luminosity of 25 or more balloons. It truly is a sight to behold – the result is astonishing!

After spending the night at the inn and enjoying a gourmet breakfast and a cup of our special blend coffee, you’ll be ready for the Rally, which is held at Hot Springs Memorial Airport. For more information, contact or call our office at 501.525.6155 or visit the Legends Balloon Rally.

Historical Perspectives in Nearby Little Rock

July 28th, 2012 by Kristie Rosset

An added advantage of having our inn in Hot Springs is the close proximity to Little Rock. Often our guests add a day onto their Hot Springs vacation and enjoy visits to two of the national historic sites in Little Rock.

One of my favorite places to return to in L.R. is the William J. Clinton Presidential Library and Museum.

Clinton Library, Photo by Hallock

Every time I visit I learn something new!  The library includes exhibits (such as a table set for a head of state dinner, and Mrs. Clinton’s inaugural gown). Regardless of your political perspective, this is an interesting outing. In addition to the history, including the archival collection and research facilities, the museum includes replicas of the Oval Office and the Cabinet Room.  You can actually sit in the president’s chair.

Another part of our remarkable national history in Little Rock is the Central High School National Historic Site, recognized throughout the country for the role it played in the desegregation of U.S. public schools. Located in an old 50′s style gas station, the stories come alive describing the courage of the Little Rock Nine integrating the school, protected by National Guardsmen.

One of Lookout Point’s previous guests was a skinny 19 year old college student in 1957, called up to active duty for the Guards. He describes the fear, as first they were called by the governor to prevent the 9 students from entering. Shortly after, under Presidential orders, these same Guards were then called upon to protect the students.

At the museum I learned that the Arkansas governor actually shut down the high schools the following year, rather than allow integration. Thanks to the determination of mothers across the city, the schools were eventually reopened.

During your day in Little Rock, enjoy lunch in the River Market district, overlooking the wide Arkansas River. Bosco’s is a fav of ours, with their micro-brews.

How to Relax in Hot Springs!

July 14th, 2012 by Kristie Rosset

Sometimes we just need to getaway, chill, and have some down time. When you come to our inn on Lake Hamilton, you’ll find there are LOTS of great things to do in the area. But you may be like our guests, Bo and Teresa, who needed some time to relax. Here’s some of the many ways they discovered at the inn to soak up some tranquility and pampering:

Celebrating Love at Lookout Point: Not Long Enough!

June 15th, 2012 by Kristie Rosset

Yesterday, Ray & I celebrated our 37th wedding anniversary, and I am so grateful to this patient and good man for his kind and generous  spirit. Part of our anniversary traditions include expressing gratitude for our lives shared, and enjoying a nice bottle of red.

For years I’ve been interested to hear long-time married people tell the stories of creating a successful marriage. And now we are one of those “long-time” couples! I really don’t understand how it happened so quickly!

When my parents celebrated their 50th anniversary, I asked them the secret to their successful marriage. My mother said the typical answers: don’t go to bed mad, love each other, etc. My father bluntly replied: Do what SHE says! Of course, he promptly received the reaction he desired.

A few days ago, Lucian and Wanda

Wanda & Lucian (back), Tammy & James (foreground)

celebrated their 45th anniversary at Lookout Point. One morning they dined outdoors by the waterfalls, and shared conversation with James and Tammy, who will be married this fall at the inn. Lucian offered a great piece of advice to the upcoming groom. Whenever Lucian is asked how long he’s been married, he responds by looking lovingly & directly into Wanda’s eyes, and says “Not long enough!”

What a beautiful reply! It’s true: Ray & I have not been married long enough. Here’s to many more great decades together. And to all of you celebrating a June anniversary: congratulations!—Kristie

Fun On Crystal Clear Lake Hamilton

June 12th, 2012 by Kristie Rosset

One of the most beautiful lakes in Arkansas is literally in our back yard. Lake Hamilton

Beautiful Lake Hamilton

is gorgeous and offers so much fun year ‘round but especially during the summer months. Guests at our Hot Springs B&B all have awesome views inviting you to sit and spend some quiet time gazing on the beauty of the lake. It soothes your soul and slows a racing mind.

In addition to slowing down and getting in touch with the natural beauty, the lake has opportunities for all water lovers. From July 6-31, guests at Lookout Point can receive a free boat ride for two with Captain Ray when  staying four nights at the inn. If you haven’t had a boat ride with Capt. Ray you’ve missed out on a wonderful experience on the lake–and most of his stories are true!

You may also use our canoe free of charge and, of course, take a swim in the refreshing water. Beach towels provided, of course. We’re happy to help in renting kayaks, delivered to the inn for you. If you’ve never been in a kayak or SUP, this summer might be the time to add this exciting adventure to your repertoire.

For those who love to fish, we have different options to offer. Guests may  fish off our seawall as often as you like, catching crappie, bream and bass. (Try saying crappie, bream and bass fast three times!)  If you want more fishing adventure, we can arrange a guide who will assist you on an area lake, promising you’ll make some great catches. Advance reservations required for the fishing guide.

Another option on the lake is renting a pontoon boat from a nearby marina. We’re always eager to help guests make arrangements and send you off for a fun day on the prettiest lake in the area.

When we say crystal clear Lake Hamilton, we are serious! The lake is clean and really clear to seven feet. The bottom is shale and, therefore, not muddy! What more can water enthusiasts ask for from a lake?

Fireworks over Lake Hamilton in Hot Springs

May 29th, 2012 by Kristie Rosset

A summer highlight for guests is viewing terrific fireworks

Fireworks over Lake Hamilton

over Lake Hamilton on the long holiday weekends (Memorial, July 4th, and Labor Day). This past weekend, Lookout Point Inn joined forces with other business leaders to sponsor the fireworks show.

Many of our guests enjoyed the show from the deck of The Belle Riverboat (they offer a fireworks cruise). She departs about 30 minutes before the fireworks begin, and provides an awesome view. Another great viewing option is from the outside dining area of J&S Italian Villa. But you’ll need to make reservations early!

Of course, we gladly make reservations for our guests at either location for viewing the fireworks. We invite you to stay at our lakeside Hot Springs B&B for a fun summer vacation!

Crystal Bridges—Arkansas’ Fabulous New Museum

May 27th, 2012 by Kristie Rosset

Many vacationers from around the globe will visit the new world-acclaimed Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art

World class art found at Crystal Bridges, then come to Hot Springs for a stay at Lookout Point

Crystal Bridges Art Museum

in Bentonville, Arkansas, this summer. The highly-touted museum opened in November and has masterworks ranging from the Colonial period to current day and includes such well-known artists as Norman Rockwell, Andy Warhol and Georgia O’Keeffe and has received significant funding from the Walton Family Foundation.

For those planning to visit the museum, why not add a couple of days onto your trip and boogie on down to Hot Springs – only 200 miles from Bentonville? We’d love to have you stay at our luxury inn on Lake Hamilton and play in our town at the many fun, interesting places in the area.

One of my favorites is the Garvan Woodland Gardens, a spectacular outdoor botanical nature area featuring gorgeous flora and fauna, 4 ½ miles of wooded shoreline on Lake Hamilton and the beautiful floor-to-ceiling glass Anthony Chapel situated inside the gardens. There is nothing quite like it!

Of course, there are other fun things to do in Hot Springs as well, including:

  • Magic Springs theme park
  • Mid-America Science Museum
  • The National Park and Bath House Row
  • Water sports and fishing on the beautiful lakes
  • Excellent art galleries in the historic downtown
  • Fine Dining

Pairing a visit to the world-renowned Crystal Bridges Museum with a trip to Hot Springs and a stay at Lookout Point Inn would certainly seem like the perfect vacation.

Pamper Your Parents to say “Thank You”!

May 11th, 2012 by Kristie Rosset

In honor of the special Mom or Dad in your life, we’d like to suggest a weekend at Lookout Point InnGourmet Breakfast at Lookout Point as your unique gift for Mother’s Day or Father’s Day or as a combined gift for both of them.

Pamper your Parents with a special weekend or weekday gift at the inn to say “thank you for all you’ve done to help me become the person I am today.”

Most Moms love chocolates and wine, a massage, time in the gardens at the inn or walking the labyrinth. Of course, there’s always shopping in downtown or visiting Garvan Gardens.

Dads can make it a golf weekend, schedule an outing with Captain Ray on Lake Hamilton , take the canoe out for the afternoon, or get the knots out with a relaxing massage.

Sunsets at Lookout Point are spectacular followed by a gourmet dinner at one of the fine dining restaurants in Hot Springs.

Give us a call @ 501-525-6155 or 866-525-6155 or e-mail us at info@lookoutpointinn.com and let us know how you’d like to honor your special Mom or Dad. We’ll offer suggestions, help you make all the reservations and send you a gift certificate for their stay.

At Lookout Point Inn we’d like to offer a special thank you to all the parents and grandparents who have made a contribution of love and support. You’re such an important part of our lives!

A Doily-Free Better Way to Stay!

April 29th, 2012 by Kristie Rosset

If you haven’t stayed in a bed and breakfast or an inn recently or ever, you’re missing pure pleasure in travel adventure.

Years ago bed & breakfasts conjured up visions of old Victorian houses that smelled funny and had white doilies (looks like a crocheted placemat that your grandmother made) on every table top. That just isn’t the case anymore. Take a look at the  Death to Doilies video and make your next reservation at a bed and breakfast. We would especially love having you visit us at Lookout Point Inn in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Here you’ll have an escapade of pure pampering and luxury.

Lookout Point is the vision Ray and I had years ago to provide a beautiful, serene setting on Lake Hamilton that would serve as a sanctuary of peace and tranquility for our special guests who were looking for a place to relax and unplug.

If you have never had a bed and breakfast experience or it’s been a long time since you treated yourself, you’ll be amazed at the extraordinary opportunity that awaits you. —- by Kristie Rosset

Happy Birthday to Lookout Point Lakeside Inn!

February 14th, 2012 by Kristie Rosset

Happy 9th Birthday to Lookout Point! Today we celebrate nine years

Happy Birthday!

of opening our doors to the best guests in the entire world. On Valentine’s Day, 2003 we opened to a full house. While some guests were out to dinner, glass shower doors were being installed. With construction delays, the gardens and waterfalls were yet a vision in our minds at that time.

The first day of serving breakfast, Ray sliced his hand on a new knife –he was not used to handling sharp knives–and had to drive himself to the ER for stitches and then surgery.

We’ve learned so much in these 9 years, and the most important lesson is the comforting reassurance that we love, love, love being innkeepers and welcoming people to this oasis of peace & tranquility.

You’re invited to come stay at our Hot Springs B&B/Inn!
