April 1st, 2012 by kristierosset

One of the year’s biggest events, the Racing Festival of the South, brings tens of thousands race fans to Hot Springs.

Thoroughbreds at Oaklawn

Major races and special events happen through the week.  On Saturday mornings, Dawn at Oaklawn provides horse enthusiasts up-close and personal experience with the horses, trainers, and jockeys. It’s a time to see the horses in a stress-free, non-racing environment, when they’re way more playful!

For the Apple Blossom race on Friday, April 13, we’re awaiting official news of Havre de Grace, the current Horse of the Year, defending her crown. Apparently her owners will decide by April 7 if she will make another appearance at Oaklawn. What an opportunity to see an amazing horse!

On Saturday, don a hat and come to the Arkansas Derby. You’ll see top horses, have fun, and spend the day in a beautiful setting.

We’d love to welcome you to Lookout Point for the Racing Festival!

Oaklawn Features the "Race for The Ages"!

February 18th, 2010 by kristierosset

Within hours of the announcement, the phones were ringing constantly.  The Race for the Ages, featuring two fabulous horses:  Rachel Alexander, the 2009 Horse of the Year, and Zenyatta.  They’ll race at Oaklawn’s Apple Blossom festival on April 9, 2010.

The purse for the race increased from $500,000 to $5 million when an agreement was reached for these two horse to race against the other for the first time.

Travelers have been calling from around the world.  A racing fan from Saudi Arabia called the little Hot Springs airport asking what size plane was “too big” to land.  The airport director suggested this international traveler fly his 747 (!!!) into New York and rent a smaller plane there.

Lookout Point still has a couple of rooms available for Thursday, April 8 if you can come enjoy the excitement!
