New Idea for Sharing Gratitude from Lookout Point

November 25th, 2009 by Ray Rosset

I love Thanksgiving!  It’s the one holiday with no pressure, except for great food.  No gifts to buy, no new clothes needed.  The holiday began more than two hundred years ago by a declaration of Congress, for the purpose of giving thanks.

Each year at the Thanksgiving table, I invite/cajole/beg family members into sharing their thanks.  Our daughters have complained about this for years.  As in, “oh no, here she goes again.”   This year we started what I hope is a new tradition, one that I read about in a magazine on a recent flight (but I don’t remember the zine, perhaps Real Simple?).

At each place setting, a notecard, envelope and ink pen werewritten gratitude awaiting.  Following the blessing, every family member was invited to write down their gratitude, seal the envelope, and write their name on it.  Next Thanksgiving, the cards will be returned and hopefully will provide a wonderful memory.  Guess what?  No complaints were heard, and even enthusiasm for this exercise was expressed.  Wow!  Now, if I can remember where I put those cards next year…….

I am abundantly grateful for the privilege of serving our guests at Lookout Point, and doing so with my beloved, Ray.

Mud flies at Hot Springs Jeep Jamboree

October 25th, 2009 by Ray Rosset

20th annual Ouachita Jeep Jamboree

20th annual Ouachita Jeep Jamboree

Guests Shelle & Alberto traveled from Dallas to participate in the challenging Jeep Jamboree held outside of Hot Springs.  With rocky vertical challenges, mud pits, water crossings, and various competitions, the Jamboree brought participants from around the U.S.    At times, Shelle and Alberto found the rock challenges not only thrilling, but nail biting.  With a jeep covered in mud, they had a great time!  Thanks for staying at Lookout Point Lakeside Inn!  We’re guessing the whirlpool tub at the end of the day soothed a few sore muscles.

The inn is only 4 1/2 hours from Dallas, so the guests were able to depart for Dallas and make it home in time to attend the Dallas Cowboys game.  Sweet.

Lookout Point Package lifted off Wheel of Fortune

October 1st, 2009 by Ray Rosset

Yesterday’s ten seconds of fame for Lookout Point, featured on the Wheel of Fortune, flew by!  We appreciate all the comments that we have received from the friends and fans of Lookout Point.  The inn’s package on the wheel was on the way to being won by a contestant, until she lost her turn suddenly.  The Room With A View Week highlighted the gorgeous and calm lakeviews found at the inn, and the announcer butchered the pronounciation of the Ouachita Mountains, seen from the inn.  Of course, most people mispronounce the word, correctly pronounced “Waw’-chi-taw.

Watching the show was surreal, and the 10 seconds flew by.  Yet it was an honor to be asked to provide a package.   And we certainly wish a contestant had won.  What did you think of the show?

Lookout Point on the Wheel of Fortune, TOMORROW, Sept. 30, 2009

September 29th, 2009 by Ray Rosset

You are invited to watch Wheel of Fortune tomorrow, September 30, to see a prize on the wheel from Lookout Point Lakeside Inn!  It will be exciting to hear Pat Sajak and Vanna White talk about the inn.  Certainly we hope a contestant wins the week long stay packed with great Hot Springs activities.  We hope you’ll watch Wheel of Fortune tomorrow, and provide some feedback on this blog or Facebook.

Frequently we hear,  “Wow!  How did you get on Wheel of Fortune?”  Bedandbreakfast.com is the exclusive contact for bed & breakfast prizes on the Wheel.  In April, we were contacted by Bedandbreakfast.com, asking if we were interested in providing a package for “Rooms With A View” week.  With an enthusiastic yes, we provided the details of a weeklong package, B-roll (video used for television), plus photos and descriptions of the inn.  During the summer, we learned that Lookout Point was selected.  The show was taped on August 6, and now the time is here.  Thanks for watching!

Mother & Daughter compete in Tae Kwon Do
Mother & Daughter compete in Tae Kwon Do

We welcome the most interesting and kind folks in the world at Lookout Point!  Kathy (left) and Jennifer–a dynamic mother and daughter–completed ATA Tae Kwon Do competition in Hot Springs this week .  Best of all, Kathy won the World Championship in her age bracket (she’s adamant about including the “age bracket”.)    With a great sense of humor, Kathy shrugged off this huge achievement with “all the other competitors in my age bracket were in wheelchairs or on walkers!”    Congratulations!  Best of luck in all your future competitions.
