Hot Springs Turns up the Green for St. Paddy’s Day

March 5th, 2013 by Kristie Rosset

If you love parades with leprechauns, quirky floats, marching bands and Irish Elvis impersonators, then you’ll absolutely love the First Ever Tenth Annual World’s Shortest St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

Come celebrate the Irish!

Come celebrate the Irish!

Just the name makes me laugh and that’s exactly how much fun you can count on at the event. After participating in the 2012 festivities, I wouldn’t miss this year’s celebration for anything. And, I hope you won’t either.

The grand marshals for the parade are Bo Derek from the movie “10” and John Corbett, the TV star from “Northern Exposure.” Previously, Bo and John were each grand marshals in different years, now we’re excited to have this long-time couple share the duties!

The 98-foot-long parade (for real – it’s really only 98 feet) is held on Bridge Street with a green celebration and green libation and includes the kissing of the Blarney Stone.

I hope I have convinced you to come and enjoy the traditional Irish celebration on Bridge Street in Hot Springs on March 17 in a very non-traditional manner. You’ll have lots to tell your friends!

And, please while you’re in town – make your visit complete with a stay at Lookout Point Inn. Call 501-525-6155 for reservations or book online.

Volunteering Motivates Hot Springs’ Innkeeper to Keep Growing

September 18th, 2012 by Kristie Rosset

When Lookout Point was just a speck in our eyes, Ray & I discovered the Professional Association of Innkeepers International (PAII) and quickly became members. We were delighted to discover a comprehensive industry surrounding innkeeping, and the amazing on-going learning opportunities through PAII. More than 10 years ago, we attended our first Innkeeping Conference in Chicago–learning great stuff to make us better, and more professional, innkeepers.

Since that time, we continue to grow and learn through the many offerings of PAII. Not only do we learn from PAII and the wonderful network of Innkeeper colleagues, but we began volunteering.

CEO Jay Karen, and Board Chair Kristie Rosset

Over the years, Ray & I have led workshops & webinars, introduced speakers, and served on planning committees.  It’s a joy to give back to the association that continues to teach us so much! Ray & I agree that volunteering brings an additional layer of joy to our lives! Yes, volunteering takes up precious time, commitment, and money–but the investment is worth it.

A few years ago, I was elected to the Board of Directors. Then in January, 2012 I was elected Chair of the Board of Directors of PAII. We recently moved PAII’s headquarters from New Jersey to Charleston, South Carolina. Last week featured a series of leadership meetings, and it was my pleasure to visit for the first time our new headquarters.

If you have ever dreamed of becoming an innkeeper, I urge you to check out PAII to learn everything possible before making the jump. And come stay with us at Lookout Point– we’ll gladly share information with you.

We urge you to volunteer in whatever arena brings you joy and fuels your passion for life.

A Doily-Free Better Way to Stay!

April 29th, 2012 by Kristie Rosset

If you haven’t stayed in a bed and breakfast or an inn recently or ever, you’re missing pure pleasure in travel adventure.

Years ago bed & breakfasts conjured up visions of old Victorian houses that smelled funny and had white doilies (looks like a crocheted placemat that your grandmother made) on every table top. That just isn’t the case anymore. Take a look at the  Death to Doilies video and make your next reservation at a bed and breakfast. We would especially love having you visit us at Lookout Point Inn in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Here you’ll have an escapade of pure pampering and luxury.

Lookout Point is the vision Ray and I had years ago to provide a beautiful, serene setting on Lake Hamilton that would serve as a sanctuary of peace and tranquility for our special guests who were looking for a place to relax and unplug.

If you have never had a bed and breakfast experience or it’s been a long time since you treated yourself, you’ll be amazed at the extraordinary opportunity that awaits you. —- by Kristie Rosset

8 Broads in the Kitchen Featured in Boston Examiner

December 18th, 2011 by Kristie Rosset

As a member of the 8 Broads in the Kitchen, I was delighted to see our food blog covered in the Boston Examiner this past week. You’ll find some great holiday recipes on the site, including Evil Toffee (so named because it cannot be resisted, it’s so darn good).

The 8 Broads formed to create a fun food website, where we could offer tips and recipes to share with other foodies. In the process, we’ve become fast friends. In addition to the blog, we write for magazines, teach food demos, lead webinars, and have done radio shows.

I just posted to the blog my mother-in-law’s fabulous Christmas butterscotch marshmallow bars.

Butterscotch Bars

Only made at Christmas, these treats remind us of long-ago times in Winnipeg, filled with laughter and bitter cold weather.

What holiday foods bring back memories for you?

Visit the final evening of the Lights on the Landscape at Garvan Woodland Gardens with a lovely stroll through the gardens.

Enjoy a late dinner at Bohemia (continental cuisine). The New Year’s Eve special is 4 courses for only $24! Great food, and friendly service. Reservations required, and we’ll take of all concierge for you.

Veteran’s Day in Hot Springs

November 11th, 2011 by Kristie Rosset

We would like to thank the many military personnel who spent their Veterans’ Day with us today at Lookout Point!

We welcomed  veterans and those serving in active duty with a free Arkansas getaway in honor of their service.  Our special guests today included men and women from all branches of the military who have served in Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan.

Hundreds of innkeepers participated in this B&Bs for Vets campaign, sponsored by the Better Way To Stay,  to recognize those who have made sacrifices for our freedom.

Thank you veterans!

As an on-going thanks to America’s service men and women, Lookout Point always offers a 10% discount Sunday-Thursday for active military.  We thank you for your service to our country!

Favorite Ice Cream scoops in Hot Springs, Arkansas

May 30th, 2011 by Kristie Rosset

Ahh, sitting outside on a warm evening, enjoying a great scoop or two or three homemade ice cream.

Triple Ice Cream scoops

Here’s our favorite ice cream spots in Hot Springs:

1.  Nom Noms, Mexican Grill-N- Chill. Who would have thought a Mexican grill rates with fantastic homemade ice cream? In a non-descript former fast food building, this place rocks. I tried the strawberry sorbet with cake batter, and Ray had nutella heath icecream.  Smooth as silk.

2. Scoops Ice Cream. Scoops is probably the better known, and is a very popular ice cream spot.  Great flavors and friendly service.

When you stay at our Hot Springs bed & breakfast, we promise to send you to ALL of the best spots in the area.
