Beginning June 2, we will all be able to listen to live classical music in historic downtown Hot Springs Arkansas. The Hot Springs Music Festival has concerts each night for two weeks with different programs and in different venues, including the Arlington Hotel, several churches, Historic Bathhouse Row and ending at Oaklawn VPA Magnet School on June 15. On June 8 the unique, outdoor Progressive Concert begins at 7:30 and the audience will move with the band down Bathhouse Row in the National Park.

This is the 18^th season for the Festival, which is titled “Coming of Age” and celebrates the bicentennial of Giuseppe Verdi and Richard Wagner’s births and the centennial of Benjamin Brittan’s. Some of the song selections for the programs come directly from these three composers’ operatic repertoire, promising an entertaining festival from start to finish.

The concerts and venues are listed on the Festival website along with ticket information. This is such a wonderful event in Hot Springs, bringing in talented musicians and allowing the audiences to enjoy world-renowned music.

Summer is fast approaching, and with it comes the opportunity to visit the always-active Magic Springs in Hot Springs AR. The amusement park has a few surprises up its sleeve this year, including a new water park addition, Splash Island, and a lively concert series.

The series begins just before Memorial Day on May 25^th with Collective Soul, and it continues all summer, giving you plenty of chances to catch some of these acts.

The concerts are held outside in the Timberwood Amphitheater. The events are family friendly, with people camped out on the lawn with blankets and chairs. The atmosphere is best soaked up with sunglasses, sunscreen, a big smile, and a glass of water. When we turn onto Central Avenue in Hot Springs, I can’t help but sit up in my seat to watch the buildings pass. We are here twice a year, so I know exactly where we are going. As the wind blows past the windows, I see Lake Hamilton in the distance. Just thinking about the all the grass and flowers waiting for me makes me SING. Really loudly.

The other dogs I see just don’t understand. They must not be going to Lookout Point.

 When we round the curve to park in front of the inn, I am anxious to get out the door. As soon as I am inside the room, I want to eat all the treats waiting for me, but my master insists I look at the note written for me first. “Dear Lany,” it says, “enjoy a pawfect stay.” I ignore all the stuff written in the middle because there is a hammock outside calling my name.

Whew, naptime!

It really is the perfect spot for a nap, even if I have to share it. Sometimes I like to go for a swim.

Alert on the labyrinth

Splashing around in the water makes my masters laugh. They don’t get upset if I get them wet because we each have our own beach towels, but I like to sit in the labyrinth and let the sun warm me up.

I play for as long as I can, running on the path in the garden and by the waterfall. I make sure to keep an eye on all the birds that like to eat from the feeders at the top of the hill. One of my favorite things about staying here is exploring the garden. There are always flowers to sniff and grass to sit on.

I know we just left Lookout Point, but I am ready to go back right now.

Their wedding was attended by her parents, and the maid of honor was their dog, Luna. Actually, Luna was referred to as the “Best Dog”. Love it! She wasn’t too wild about her lace booties, but the fancy white hat stayed on for a while.

The artist said, “I use nature, chance and my emotions as inspiration for my art glass.” He was born in Pine Bluff and owns the James Hayes Art Glass Company there. Hayes has had numerous solo and group exhibitions throughout the U.S. including an invitation from the White House to design a Christmas tree ornament.
