How Much Will My Wedding Cost?

June 15th, 2014 by Kristie Rosset

Lookout Point WeddingsCongratulations – you’re engaged! Whether it’s been a lifelong dream or something you were certain you’d never do, a wedding is now in your future. Some couples are surprised to find that before the ‘I do’s are exchanged, they will likely tackle a nightmare of planning, budgeting, and stressing.

Last year, nearly 32,000 couples tied the knot in Arkansas, spending an average of $21,450 on their weddings. The largest portion of this cost was spent on the wedding venue, catering and various rentals such as chairs and linens. Other significant expenses include flowers, décor, and lodging during the event. Choosing a venue that includes all these items with your wedding purchase can reduce the cost and simplify decision making.

With weddings, as with life, a well-crafted budget is an indispensable tool, and a plethora of budgeting resources are available through popular wedding planning sites. How can you insure that you keep your budget in check and still have the memorable, stress-free wedding day that you want? It’s all in the numbers, and not just dollars. The guest list is your #1 budget adjustor – with each invited person commonly adding anywhere from $50 to $200 to your total expense. Consider celebrating your union with an intimate group of close family and friends instead of inviting all your distant relatives and acquaintances. Or perhaps enjoy a private elopement ceremony with the option of a casual reception to celebrate with everyone later. You may find that with fewer guests you can afford a few things you really wanted but didn’t think possible – like gourmet hors d’oeuvres, stunning floral arrangements or a deluxe photography package.

One resource that a strictly financial budget fails to address is your time, which is often even more stretched than your dollar. It has been estimated that brides often spend well over 100 hours planning the big day during a typical engagement. That doesn’t sound so bad when you imagine lazy Sunday afternoons spent creating Pinterest boards, but when it comes down to contacting vendors, signing contracts, and actually putting your dreams into action, the time investment becomes more daunting.

An experienced wedding coordinator can handle the majority of the planning tasks that tie up your limited time, allowing you to devote your free time to what’s most important – the relationship that you’re building. At first thought, the idea of hiring a wedding coordinator may sound extravagant – even counterintuitive for those with a limited budget. However, the knowledge base and business relationships that a wedding professional brings to the table will certainly save you time and stress, and often money as well. Some of the best Arkansas wedding venues include an on-staff wedding coordinator, allowing you access to the help you need at a fraction of the cost of hiring an experienced coordinator on your own.

At Lookout Point Lakeside Inn, we create a special experience for every bride and groom, from the luxurious rooms and delicious breakfasts during your stay, to the seamless coordination of your gorgeous lakeside wedding. You choose from a variety of customizable wedding packages to fit different dreams and budgets. Each includes the most stunning outdoor setting for your ceremony and photos, a caring ordained officiant to conduct the ceremony according to your desires, and coordination assistance from start to finish. Let us make your dreams come true!

Hot Trends in Small Weddings

January 8th, 2014 by Kristie Rosset

Since small weddings are her specialty, our wedding coordinator Tiffany has compiled a list of the hottest trends in small weddings for future brides.

As for the big picture, elopements are becoming more popular as couples look to save money and create a relationship-focused marriage. These intimate ceremonies have personal touches and a stress-free atmosphere, and the customization opportunities for the couple are endless. Our elopement packages offer a variety of personalized options for a “wedding for two.”

For details within a small wedding, a classic color scheme is still popular—neutrals with metallic punches. Using white or cream as a backdrop for a small wedding provides an elegant way to tie all the elements of the wedding together, from the dress to the tablecloths to the chairs. A few metallic elements add sparkle to an understated color scheme—a silver cake stand, glittering gems on the table, or rhinestone bouquet wrap.

The biggest bonus of a small wedding is the cherished atmosphere. One way that couples are capitalizing on this is by taking a personal photo with each guest at their wedding. Besides the great social media moments that you can get from such a display, the guests at the wedding will feel that much more beloved and included in your special day.

Following the wedding, the reception is becoming more casual and experimental with a focus on appetizers. From mini-quiche to Caprese salad skewers to potato nachos and beyond, appetizers are great for variety. Delicious small bites are a thoughtful way to feed guests at afternoon receptions, especially if you’re heading to a restaurant afterward for dinner.

Five Advantages of Small Weddings

December 31st, 2013 by Kristie Rosset

Here are the top five reasons to have a small wedding:

deluxe-dream5. Freedom to customize: With a small guest list, you are free to customize every aspect of your wedding to reflect the two of you! Plus, if you are into DIY (and Pinterest, like we are), a small wedding is the perfect place to unleash your creative juices with crafty projects.

4. More “wow” for less money: One of the top reasons that couples often have small weddings is to save money; but for those that would like to have all the bells and whistles, a smaller guest list means that your money stretches farther. At our Hot Springs bed and breakfast, that includes the added benefit of an experienced wedding coordinator, who makes sure that your day is beautiful, personal, and stress-free.

3. Creative venue options: With less guests, you can take advantage of picturesque spots that accommodate smaller numbers—from outside weddings with exotic destinations and gorgeous scenery, to restaurants, museums, and bed and breakfasts, and everything in between. To see some beautiful photos of weddings performed lakeside, look at our gallery.

2. Intimate atmosphere: A smaller wedding means you get to spend more time with your guests, welcoming them into the bigger picture of your marriage.

1. Focus on marriage: The best part of a small wedding is that the focal point is on the connection that will make your marriage the center of your life. Small weddings celebrate that inner circle of friends and family that keep you, as a couple, united.

Celebrating Love at Lookout Point: Not Long Enough!

June 15th, 2012 by Kristie Rosset

Yesterday, Ray & I celebrated our 37th wedding anniversary, and I am so grateful to this patient and good man for his kind and generous  spirit. Part of our anniversary traditions include expressing gratitude for our lives shared, and enjoying a nice bottle of red.

For years I’ve been interested to hear long-time married people tell the stories of creating a successful marriage. And now we are one of those “long-time” couples! I really don’t understand how it happened so quickly!

When my parents celebrated their 50th anniversary, I asked them the secret to their successful marriage. My mother said the typical answers: don’t go to bed mad, love each other, etc. My father bluntly replied: Do what SHE says! Of course, he promptly received the reaction he desired.

A few days ago, Lucian and Wanda

Wanda & Lucian (back), Tammy & James (foreground)

celebrated their 45th anniversary at Lookout Point. One morning they dined outdoors by the waterfalls, and shared conversation with James and Tammy, who will be married this fall at the inn. Lucian offered a great piece of advice to the upcoming groom. Whenever Lucian is asked how long he’s been married, he responds by looking lovingly & directly into Wanda’s eyes, and says “Not long enough!”

What a beautiful reply! It’s true: Ray & I have not been married long enough. Here’s to many more great decades together. And to all of you celebrating a June anniversary: congratulations!—Kristie

Small Weddings Save Big Money & Reduce Stress

March 4th, 2012 by Kristie Rosset

Small, intimate weddings are growing in popularity for lots of really good reasons:

  • lots of money saved
  • reduces the stress of planning a major event
  • the bride and groom are surrounded by their very closest family and friends
  • time to focus on the marriage, instead of the wedding
  • a small destination wedding may become a fun family reunion!

On Leap Year Day, Jack & Michelle

Leap Year Wedding

exchanged vows in a lovely ceremony at the Anthony Chapel of the Garvan Gardens.  Immediate family from all over the U.S. gathered, enjoying time together.

Following the wedding, the wedding party returned to Lookout Point for photographs, the wedding reception, and wedding dinner (catered by Chef Eve). Jack’s twin sister Jill was also present—too funny (Jack & Jill)!

Michelle & Jack taught me something new: steam punk. What great guests!

Springtime is a beautiful time of year to be married in our gardens by the lake. Give us a call at 866.525.6155 to reserve your Hot Springs wedding!
