Pickleball is a hot sport in Hot Springs for all ages. Never heard of the game? It’s fun to play and great exercise for all skill levels, and the sport’s popularity has taken off throughout the country.
Hot Springs hosts the Mid-America Indoor Pickleball Championships, with the tournament taking place March 24-26 at the Hot Springs Convention Center. If you haven’t played pickleball but are curious about the sport, you’ll have fun watching these games. The Convention Center provides 15 air conditioned pickleball courts, all with good viewing from arena seating.
According to the U.S.A. Picketball Association, more than 15,000 indoor and outdoor courts exist in the U.S. with at least one location in each state. Children, teenagers, adults and especially senior adults enjoy the game. Some of the pickleball basics include:
- Combining many elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong
- Participating either indoors or outdoors on a badminton-sized court with a slightly modified tennis net
- Using a paddle and a plastic ball with holes
- Playing as doubles or singles
