When we turn onto Central Avenue in Hot Springs, I can’t help but sit up in my seat to watch the buildings pass. We are here twice a year, so I know exactly where we are going. As the wind blows past the windows, I see Lake Hamilton in the distance. Just thinking about the all the grass and flowers waiting for me makes me SING. Really loudly.
The other dogs I see just don’t understand. They must not be going to Lookout Point.
When we round the curve to park in front of the inn, I am anxious to get out the door. As soon as I am inside the room, I want to eat all the treats waiting for me, but my master insists I look at the note written for me first. “Dear Lany,” it says, “enjoy a pawfect stay.” I ignore all the stuff written in the middle because there is a hammock outside calling my name.
It really is the perfect spot for a nap, even if I have to share it. Sometimes I like to go for a swim.
Splashing around in the water makes my masters laugh. They don’t get upset if I get them wet because we each have our own beach towels, but I like to sit in the labyrinth and let the sun warm me up.
I play for as long as I can, running on the path in the garden and by the waterfall. I make sure to keep an eye on all the birds that like to eat from the feeders at the top of the hill. One of my favorite things about staying here is exploring the garden. There are always flowers to sniff and grass to sit on.
I know we just left Lookout Point, but I am ready to go back right now.
Lany, (a beautiful vizsla and frequent guest at Lookout Point)
